Clockmaker and Other Projects
Hi all,
Sorry for the delay. I'm very conscious that I haven't posted in two months.
I've got a few minor updates for you, but then one major update for all patrons...
First, I'm officially putting Clockmaker on the back burner.
I hate to do it, but I've been having some serious writer's block with this project for weeks now. I don't want to abandon it - I've put in too much work to leave it in limbo for long. But I have to admit that it's time to set it aside just long enough for me to get some fresh ideas. Musical writers block - it's a thing and it sucks because I feel like I'm letting you down.
I think the solution is just to cleanse the pallet and do something else for now.
Because I've been stuck, I've doubled down on other creative endeavours, expecting the musical spark to come back at any moment.
Here's what I've been up to in the meantime:
- In the wake of Bandcamp's recent corporate struggles, a handful of interesting indie collectives and other alternatives have popped up. I've released all the Short Songs catalogue and all the old cloudy, with occasional rain stuff on a couple of these: Mirlo & jam.coop. So far, I'm favouring Mirlo, as I think they have a nicer interface and they've been very personable to deal with, and are active in the fediverse.
- personal blog - I wanted to have a website and blog that's separate from my music life, mainly to keep shortsongs.ca from getting cluttered with my musings about anime and other interests. One fun thing that's come of this is a short story I've been working on in little spurts about a guy who travels the world and collects records.
- Tech upgrade - My current setup for backing up all my music work (and other stuff like photos, etc.), is old and imminently in need of replacement. I've been working with some pals to get that figured out. It's a bit complicated to set up, but once it's running, I'll feel a lot more confident that I won't suddenly lose digital thing I have.
- Norah & Griff's Travelling Roadshow - My wife and I made a country music duo and have been playing at some small festivals, some seniors centres and maybe somewhere near you soon? It's loads of fun and something musical that doesn't require as much creative effort, as we're just playing old classic country tunes by Dolly, Hank, Merle, etc.
That's pretty much it for this update because I want to save the other thing for an announcement to all patrons in the next couple days.
Thanks for sticking with me through these last few weeks.
Time to light it back up,
Chris
