Music

I'm playing in a couple of gig bands these days: The first is The Hurry Hards - a high-energy band that covers Canadian mega pop (think: Celine Dion, Nickelback, Bieber) in a ska-punk style. They're silly and loads of fun! A couple guys from that band and I are also in The Inconsoulables - a cool '60s garage rock band (think: Ray Charles, Screaming Jay Hawkins, Jackie Wilson). This is a newer band, so we're just starting to get some gigs lined up for the new year.

Solo Stuff

A friend of mine passed away recently. She was a genuine soul and such a warm, bright light. She was also a musician. Her long-time partner (also a musician) and her family put on a beautiful musician's wake, complete with performances, an open mic, photos, art, stories. Even though it was painful, it was awesome! I hope they do that for me someday.

A few years ago, I was at a performance by her partner. I sat up front, soaking in the weird, super cool vibes. She came and sat next to me and before I could comment on how good the show was, she asked, "Hey, when is your next show?" She had an instant, honest way of disarming you and making you feel like she genuinely cared (she did).

I kept thinking of that interaction at her wake.

She's right. It's time. I've started working on some new material and a whole new solo project.
